    STEVE TOHARI

Steve Tohari born 12/11/1948 London, England, is a landscape photographer, specializing in Western United States and especially Colorado. He grew up in Switzerland, emigrated to the US to live in Florida, and then harkened to the lure of the counterculture in California, where he enrolled at one of the greatest public universities in the world - the University of California at Berkeley, He majored in psychology with a minor in sociology; staying away from the student protests at that time, he became inspired by the variety of beautiful landscapes in California and decided to finish his degree in psychology but start out as a free lance landscape photographer, in business for himself, drawing from his childhood memories of the beautiful scenery of Switzerland. Over 50 years later, Steve is still taking pictures ("50+ years a photographer, always a photographer"). I was fortunate in the turbulent 60s to find my calling.

In the 1970s, after graduating from Berkeley, Steve photographed and produced scenic California calendars for several major financial institutions as free premiums for opening or maintaining accounts - with print runs over 100,00. Later in the 70s, he opened his first photography gallery - filled with his own work - in the tourist town of Bishop, California at the foot of the Eastern Sierra Nevada - with scenery rivalling Wyoming's Grand Tetons. He moved to Colorado in 1983 and established a small gallery in Littleton and later in 1990, a larger gallery in the tourist mecca of Breckenridge - until 2017 - that afforded him the outdoor activities he loved - hiking, skiing, and 4wheeling.

Today, he is online only, living in Woodland Park above Colorado Springs. He misses the personal contact with his many customers all over the world visiting his bricks-and-mortar gallery in Breckenridge. But Steve hopes that the images for sale on this website bring you closer to his experience immersing himself in the natural beauty of Colorado.

Steve lists among his contacts his personal phone number and welcomes any questions or comments from visitors to this website.

Sunset from the summit of Mount Evans, a 14er above Denver. In late June, over 30 peaks are in the distance. The easiest of all 14ers to climb - a mere 10 minute walk up through the boulders to the very top, and howling winds. The clouds in this orange sunset reached 40,000'.

Colorado is high. The Canadian Rockies, sweltering in heat waves, are low, at a more Northern latitude. Most valleys in the central part of the Colorado Rockies exceed 8,000' in elevation. Most of the peaks in the Canadian Rockies do not exceed 8,000'. the valleys in the Canadian Rockies are as...

I love to just drive, the sound of my wheels, and the wind whistling through the crack in my window - on US Highway 24, down from Wilkerson Pass to the flat, vast emptiness of South Park - not the cartoon, but the real thing, devoid of characters, covered by the big blue sky. On to the speck of a...
